Overview
This was a design project for a local Indian restaurant in Prague, turmeric.cz. The project had two parts: creating a website, which was more standard UX/UI work, and creating a full restaurant menu, more of a graphic design task.
The main goals of the website, and the client's requirements, were simple: a single-page website presenting the restaurant, showcasing the menu, and offering a simple way to book tables.
Design system and colour scheme
The client already had a logo but no other visual identity or assets. Since the logo was based on black and gold, I built the palette from there, focusing on a subtle and elegant colour scheme usable across both the website and the menu.
The same went for typography: I paired a serif font for headings with a sans serif for readability, matching the stylish look the client preferred.
Website design
The main part of the design was done in Figma, then transferred to Framer, where the website is deployed. Since the brief was to keep the website to one page, I included the menu as a PDF download to avoid extra pages.
A standard UX process of exploration and ideation followed, with discussions with the client in between, and the design stayed in the elegant style the client preferred. The website structure follows the main goal of showcasing the menu and the option to reserve a table, with the necessary information — contacts and a map with the location — below.
Menu design
The menu followed the same process. The idea was to present special dishes on the first page or two. The client was also keen on including food photography in the menu; after discussion, this was dropped, as it would have made an already 13-page menu too long.
Reservation system
It was first decided to use a paid third-party reservation system instead of building one as part of the website. I later decided to custom-build it from scratch using AI and link it to the website — built with Lovable in only a few hours and connected to emailJS for full functionality.
Takeaways
This was a very smooth project with good client cooperation — regular meetings ensured the designs stayed on brief and any issues were addressed early. It was also the first time I implemented and deployed a fully functioning app using AI, a simple one, but a fun project to build.
As this is a recent project, next steps include deploying an analytics tool, monitoring the impact on reservations, and improving the website's SEO.
